LIKELIHOOD – Downtown Seattle
Just in time for the holidays, our collaboration with the sneaker and fashion boutique, LIKELIHOOD, has opened in downtown Seattle. The grand opening is this Friday, 12/16. Twice as large as the original store on Capitol Hill, the design of the space puts a spotlight on the creativity and ingenuity of the brands they partner with, and creates a central meeting spot for the LIKELIHOOD community.

Takai by Kashiba – Bellevue
Legendary Chef Shiro Kashiba carries on his legacy for Edomae sushi by opening a second location in Bellevue to feature his long time apprentice, Chef Jun Takai. We collaborated with the Kashiba family to create a theater dedicated to the high craft of authentic Japanese cuisine, with a refined palette of weathered cedar planks, distressed limestone, and solid ash.

Oxbow Bakery – Montlake
This project started as a collaboration with Ira Gerlich's team to transform an existing building in Montlake, and revitalize the space to be another gem in the neighborhood. Tall clerestory windows, new skylights, and a full row of double hung windows at the storefront make for a bright addition to the street. Next, we continued with the tenants, tireless bakers Kit & Jesse of Sea Wolf, to design a working space to meet their needs to shape some of the very best bagels in Seattle.

Archery Summit Winery – Oregon
Another fantastic client and project. We are due to begin construction on the new tasting room at Archery Summit right after the holidays. ASW is one of the premier pinot noir producers in the Pacific NW, and also one of the oldest. Our project will provide the winery with the front door it never had, and a world-class tasting experience looking out over the Dundee hills.

Suncadia Lodge Restoration
We have been working with the fantastic team at Suncadia Lodge on a renovation of their lodge public spaces, including the lobby, reception, bar, restaurant and outdoor spaces. Our scope includes architecture and interiors, and our ultimate goal is a design deeply rooted in its location, with a strong sense of place.

Kanaka Bay
Sited on a SW-facing shoreline along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, this home will see weather like no home we have completed to date. To ensure longevity we have detailed a high-performance envelope, engineered for net-zero energy, and a developed a building form shaped by the prevailing winds. The footprint wraps around a prominent rock outcropping, providing a protected outdoor space on windy days.

Lopez Lookout
Delayed by the pandemic and by nesting bald eagles, our latest project on Lopez Island completed construction last summer and was just recently photographed. This retreat, designed for a young family of four, is situated on an ecologically sensitive site, necessitating that the footprint be confined to that of an existing primitive cabin. The resulting design is vertically stacked out of necessity, with it’s form mitigated by carefully sculpted voids and divided-lite windows.

Firm Culture – Summer Office Retreat
Last summer the entire Heliotrope team caravaned to Orcas Island for a weekend retreat, where we toured projects currently in construction and spent time with clients in completed homes. We squeezed folks into Joe, Carsten and Luke’s cabins, while others camped outside in iffy weather. We capped it off with a visit to the top of Mount Constitution and lunch at Buck Bay Shellfish.
