Fauntleroy
Situated on a busy neighborhood street, Fauntleroy is all about the experience of entering into another world. Concrete and cedar perimeter walls, a water feature, and a heritage tree combine to create a sense of sanctuary from the outside world. The house itself turns its back on the street in favor of conversation with the sea; on the main floor, expansive water views and sliding pocket doors with access to the garden effectively dissolve the boundary between inside and outside. Upstairs, a combination of skylights and picture windows produces a gentle luminosity for sleeping spaces. The lower level opens directly to the beach, and celebrates this proximity with a shower, spa, sauna, bar, paddleboard storage, and fire pit. The design utilizes every available square inch of an unusual site, becoming a private oasis for a young and active family.
