Archery Summit

Archery Summit was founded in 1993 with a purpose to explore the potential of the pinot noir grape in the Willamette Valley region. The winery helped to build the region’s reputation for world-class pinot noir wines over the years, in a facility purpose built to handle every aspect of production -including aging in caves carved deep into the hillside. This facility was built prior to the rise of wine tourism, consequently it lacked a purpose-built experience for guests. Heliotrope was selected through an invitation-only design competition, offering a design solution that sought to work with the existing structure in an effort to elevate the overall visual appeal of the facility. The new tasting room is nestled into an existing outdoor patio space, occupying the only flat area available, and utilizes an existing cave entrance as a focal element - inviting guests to experience the production and aging process. A 100ft long colonnade stitches together old and new into a larger composition while providing much needed shade. The space opens to panoramic views across the Dundee Hills, with large sliding glass panels providing a seamless indoor/outdoor connection. A continuous skylight opposite the colonnade balances light within the space, and trees set into the floor serve to heighten the indoor/outdoor connection.
