The 2001 and 2003 Western Avenue office buildings are located at the north end of Pike Place Market, adjacent to Victor Steinbrueck Park. Heliotrope worked with the building owners and managers to develop a set of strategies elevating the overall experience of the property and integrate it better with the neighborhood. The resulting scope includes construction of three new retail spaces, changes to circulation within and around the buildings, a complete redesign of remaining open space, a new paint and cladding scheme and new lobby finishes. The design anticipates a significant local farm-to-table restaurant as an anchor tenant (design by other), with plaza landscape and paving patterns referencing linear crop rows in a garden, some of which may be used by the kitchen as an herb garden. This space will feature a dining room with sliding glass walls opening onto a large terrace facing Elliott Bay, as well as a 22ft cantilevered entry canopy.
